Our Mission The Lucy Fernandez Foundation exists to turn love and loss into purpose—honoring the life and legacy of Luciana Cristina Fernandez by carrying her light forward in everything we do. Through youth scholarship and experiential learning, boater safety education, legislative advocacy, and community leadership programs, we are building a movement rooted in faith, compassion, and accountability.
How We Serve The Foundation works across two interconnected missions. For young women, we invest in scholarship, service, and experiential learning—empowering the next generation to grow with confidence and compassion, and to lead with kindness, hope, and faith. For the broader community, we educate and empower boaters, advance boating safety legislation, and mobilize individuals across the State of Florida to protect life on the water and help shape safer waterways for everyone. Together, these efforts reflect Lucy's enduring legacy and the belief that love, when turned into action, creates lasting change.

The LOVE LIKE LUCY Scholarship honors Lucy’s legacy by supporting students at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy through both financial assistance and immersive experiential learning. Beyond tuition, scholars participate in service-based projects, travel, and educational experiences that deepen their connection to community, faith, and leadership. Together, these opportunities empower young women to grow with confidence and compassion—carrying forward Lucy’s enduring legacy of faith, kindness, hope, and love.

Through our FLY HIGH, BIRD boater safety initiative, we educate and empower boaters to enjoy the water responsibly. Guided by our philosophy, Have Fun. Be Safe., we expand awareness, promote best practices, and equip the next generation with the knowledge and tools needed to protect themselves, their passengers, and our waterways—honoring Lucy’s love for life on the water while helping save lives.

Lucy’s Law represents a major step forward in boating safety legislation, strengthening accountability and education while aligning reckless boating with more serious consequences. Alongside this work, we also spearhead Mayor Levine-Cava’s Miami-Dade County Boater Safety and Bay Education Task Force, bringing together community leaders, law enforcement, and industry professionals to develop real, actionable solutions. Together, these efforts turn tragedy into lasting protection and help create safer waterways across Florida.
